The humanities are near and dear to both of our hearts and it’s hard to imagine either of our lives without literature and art as driving forces. On today’s episode, Sophie and I share our reactions to the recent New Yorker article The End of the English Major. On today’s episode, Sophie and I discuss the new book, Monsters: A Fan’s Dilemma, by Claire Dederer, which poses the question: can we love art created by someone who is morally corrupt? Deb recently read Monsters and found it to be an intriguing look at this provocative question and given Sophie’s career in the art world, she had lots to add to this conversation. Join us for our thoughts on this tiny book that speaks volumes. From early themes of feminism, to our first introduction to Southern literature, to why this 1899 story still resonates today, we dug in. We found this novel had just as much to say to us in 2023 as it did when we read it in our high school and college classrooms. On today’s episode, we share our thoughts about our April book, Kate Chopin’s The Awakening. We share a few shows that have become part of our ethos (some you will know, and some you may not!) and had so much fun reminiscing about some great watches.ĭeb also confesses a change of heart about a show she’s been raving about, and we change up our usual end matter categories! Today we are talking about what we love to watch when we aren’t reading! We are both very picky about what we turn on but we are fanatical about the shows we do love.
